Last March, we joined a small gathering in Bali hosted by Lazy Lowie × Rusters, marking World Sleep Day with a simple but important conversation. how design shapes rest and why it matters.
"How does design influence the way we rest?"
With a room of designers, architects, and brand partners, the discussion felt less like a formal session and more like a shared reflection on what actually shapes a good space. One idea kept coming up: sleep isn’t just about the bed. It’s about everything around it.
The atmosphere. The materials. The quiet details you don’t immediately notice but feel.
For hospitality projects, this matters even more. Because the quality of rest often becomes the thing guests remember most.
What stood out to us was how the conversation naturally moved beyond visuals. Designers spoke about balancing comfort with budget. Operators shared how small decisions, like lighting or layout affect guest behaviour. It’s a reminder that great design isn’t only about how a space looks on day one, but how it performs, day after day, guest after guest. Through the sessions, it became clear that rest is shaped by layers working together:
Materials that feel right. Lighting that softens the space. Layouts that allow people to slow down. No single element defines the experience, it’s how everything comes together.
Where Ahti Fits In
At Ahti, this is exactly how we approach our work. We don’t see finishes and fittings as standalone elements, but as part of a larger system, one that supports both design intent and everyday use. Especially in bathrooms, where routines are personal and repeated, details like water flow, material durability, and consistency over time quietly shape the experience.
Events like this highlight the value of community and collaboration within the design industry. Because great spaces are not created in isolation, they are built through shared insights, aligned decisions, and a clear understanding of how people live.
